Learning can be fun if it’s something you want to learn. Amazingly, in my later years, there are some areas of interest that can easily divert me. Learning to focus on purpose lifts our sites for learning. It is so very important to remember our lives are sacred. We have limited time. Because we are alive we’re able to love, to serve and to lift one another up.
Establishing truth as a life tenet, we are helping our minds stay clear. If we are able to establish truth in our mind and heart, possibly we are then able to follow through with actions. When we act truthfully, we follow a path of grace.
To go through life not grasping “things” as if they bring joy is the key to long term fulfillment and joy. I know there is a great deal of confusion about the” haves and have-nots”. In some of my recent reading I came upon the comment by Gandhi,” There is enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed.” I must say, this statement has had a profound effect on my view of me and the world around me.
By now you’re probably thinking, what does all this have to do with yoga? These are only a few of the principles associated with a yoga practice. Recently, I have been studying for my yoga certification. I just finished studying Yin Yoga. I thought I had established restorative yoga to be my focus. After studying the textbook and practicing Yin Yoga, I believe I will be incorporating some of the principles of Yin. It is close to restorative yoga with only minor differences. Restorative and Yin use props. Something about Yin yoga I believe is good for me is the pace. Each pose is held between 2 to 5 minutes with even breathing. During a practice, even in a position, I found myself relaxing to the point of no thoughts. Typically, I have an inpatient personality style. Yin yoga slows me down, lengthens my muscles and tendons, strengthens my bones and nourishes my fascia. What’s better than that?! O, Yes, Joy!
