There is no athletic prowess needed to practice restorative yoga. It can be practiced with an injury, with a disability, when dealing with an illness, pregnant women, seniors, and beginners. Anyone out there with back pain? There are wonderful positions to help rest the back and give some relief. Yoga in itself is a spiritual discipline. The measured attentiveness to breathing is part of the practice. Back as far as the sixth century, a yoga text outlines five layers to the human existence called koshas. These five layers are the physical body, energy/breath, mind/emotions, intellect, and the blissful layer of consciousness where you are unburdened by body, emotions, or thoughts.
