Yes, I know it has taken me awhile to post #2 on Meditation. Now, I am so excited to share a new concept of Meditation (at least for me) in this blog! I am rekindling my love of body movement through my yoga practice. Not a certified trainer, yet, but have been in the learning process from many teachers for over 20 years. The older I get, the more I love the movement, sequence, and comfort after a session. Okay, I will move on. While researching for myself and for the Retreat/Spa activities, my mind/spirit/body connected! I was researching gentle movement, not yoga, for use in weight loss, improvement of posture and reduction of pain, relaxation, stress reduction and general well-being. Restorative Yoga can help in some or all of these areas. (Another topic (or should I say, another Blog?)
So, my body was working on gentle movements for a compromised back. I have a nice little steel or titanium cage supporting my spine. The movements I was reviewing were standing movements making me envision what surfing must feel like. Not much opportunity to surf in Southeast Missouri. Imaginations can serve us well. I am working on connecting the calm approach Meditation uses on the mind/spirit for stress relief benefits with gentle movement to increase benefits to the body. Surprisingly, the mind/spirit will also benefit from gentle movements. The intention of connecting mind/spirit/body in Meditation and Gentle Movement is exciting to me!
Benefits include improving posture and strengthening core muscles. Both posture improvement and core muscle strength are helpful in the relaxation process. They are also helpful in claiming or reclaiming our self-confidence. Good positive, easy body movement does wonders for our muscles and our fascia. Our what? Of course, in the fitness world, FASCIA is front and center. Fascia is a thin covering of fibrous tissue enclosing and supporting every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. It also includes nerves of its own! Wow! Talk about connection! Even gentle movements are able to increase strength of body/mind/spirit.
Enough for this installment! Learning and sharing new information brings me JOY!
