There are two ways of spreading light; To be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. – Edith Wharton
Change and growth take place when a person has risk himself and dares to become involved with experimenting with his own life. – Herbert Otto
You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help them find it within himself. – Galileo
Habit is habit, and not to be flung out the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time. – Mark Twain
Hope you enjoyed the snippets of quotations. I did. I’m in the middle, or should I say close to the end, of completing several correspondence courses involving nutrition. Little did I know when I decided to do this that a pandemic would engulf the land. I also did not know I would be starting a business which would be better served with knowledge of good nutrition and especially holistic nutrition values. Nutrition study has highlighted the importance of what I feed the physical part of my being. The better my body feels the better all of me feels. That’s holistic!
Lost Creek Bluebird’s motto is “Guiding people to find joy”. Edith Wharton’s quote represents another way of spreading joy. Herbert Otto’s quote represents how scary change can be. Galileo’s quote represents how solitary learning can be. Mark Twain’s quote represents there is no rush.
I come from a background of mental health training. I have learned it is so very, very important to think of yourself as one unit. What I mean by that, is not to think about your physical need, your emotional need, your psychological need, or your spiritual need as separate and to be treated separately. When one of these aspects of your being is challenged, then all your being is challenged. For years in the health field and the mental health field the focus was treatment for either a health need or a mental health need. In some ways that is still the case.
I came from a background of a mentally unhealthy family. Untreated mental health issues make for unhealthy family circles/kitchen tables. Having no idea there is a mental health issue in your family complicates how you think about yourself. One is a long way from a holistic being at Ground Zero.
Finding joy wherever you can helps to survive at Ground Zero. At this point one is always looking for Edith Wharton’s candle or the reflection. More frequently than not, change and risk are not in one’s vocabulary, especially at a young age. As a child one has no idea the learning that will have to take place in order to become whole. Some never grasp learning and change can happen. Patience is the key to going one step at a time. Unlearning and learning habits are some of the most challenging tasks with which human beings are confronted. Thankfully, it is possible. Many have succeeded. Many more will succeed. If I can be any part of that help, I will be grateful. That will bring me joy!
Having weight lifted from your shoulders; developing varied and clear thoughts; seeing your body become strong, in one way or another, are all benefits of your efforts in developing a holistic approach to life.
